My Process

Flowers

Product Design is the entire process of creating usable products and experiences, starting by defining real human problems and collaboratively working toward successful and measurable solutions. I have used the double diamond as a guide in my work for as long as I can remember. The concept is to do the right thing, the right way. Read on to see how I typically apply it.

🔍 Discover

This is about building empathy and understanding all the human problems we can solve that will help us achieve our goal. I typically do this by:

  • Revisiting previous research
  • Internal interviews
  • Viewing user recordings
  • Analysing quantitaitve user behaviour
  • Interviewing users
  • User surveys
  • Competitive & comparitve research

🏹 Define

Now we've collected all the interesting data, I facilitate sessions about our findings to define a specific user problem that has measurable success toward our goal. I typically do this by:

  • Workshopping / Facilitation
  • Impact / Effort
  • Problem statement (e.g. HMW)
  • Journey Mapping
  • Problem statements
  • Personas
  • Opportunity sizing

🌪 Ideate

Great! We have a problem to solve. 🎉 Here's the fun bit where we go wide on all the ways we can solve that problem - small and large. Our goal is to satisfy our user and meet their needs. I typically do this by:

  • Brainstorming / Facilitation
  • Design Sprints
  • Sketching
  • Card sorting & Tree testing
  • Prototyping (multi-fi)

🛠 Test

We're so far confident in the soluton/s we're working on. Our goal is to test it, iterate on it, challenge our assumptions and learn/fail fast. I build confidence in our idea, or direction by:

  • Usability testing
  • Guerilla testing
  • A/B testing
  • Fake Doors
